Smart Meter Momentum Builds in Saint Kitts!

As Saint Kitts and Nevis announces its nation-wide smart meter rollout, powered by Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), we at D-Fix welcome the initiative as an important — and timely — leap toward an intelligent, responsive service grid across the Caribbean.

Earlier this year, the Honourable Minister Konris Maynard confirmed that SKELEC (St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited) would begin replacing traditional meters with AMI-enabled smart meters, laying the groundwork for real-time energy analytics, prepaid billing, renewable energy integration, and remote grid monitoring.

This marks a powerful shift in regional infrastructure.

We also found strong alignment in Genus Power’s technical overview of AMI systems, which breaks down how smart meters — powered by MIUs and radio-based communication protocols — can transmit consumption data, outage alerts, voltage anomalies, and system events to both utilities and end-users.

These capabilities, once limited to industrial power grids, are now reaching homes, small businesses, and local districts.
